Calgary Wedding Caricatures

I didn't have time to take anymore pictures at this beautiful East Indian wedding I drew at about a month ago, at weddings I have to get through as many guests as I can in the allotted time, it's pressure on me but there is a start and finish time and I try to finish at the "finish time" with as many drawn as possible...then...that's it, I'm spent....:)

Wedding Caricatures

Caricatures at weddings this year are the highest number I've ever done. I have another this weekend, this sample was from last weekend. I only had time for one picture as there was a long line-up and the idea is to get as many caricatures drawn in the allotted time. Stickman Experience , Kelly Gannon

I had a beautiful opportunity this year to attend The Stickman Experience in Sask. Started by Jayson Brinkworth ( super nice guy and drummer for Aaron Pritchett). It was great to see Jim Riley from Rascal Flatts again this year and the other picture is non other than the drummer for Bryan Adams, Pat Steward ( I'm 6'1" and he makes me look short!).  It was great to hang with two accomplished super drummers.

Back in the 90's I spent close to 4 years as an editorial cartoonist for various newspapers. At first I enjoyed the job, some editors were good...some....not so much. I did learn never to trust the mainsteam media in any way ever again after working in them in this capacity. (this includes talk shows and of course the nightly news...) I'm MUCH happier now drawing guests at corporate events, guests are always the main reason for this as they accept this art form well...thank you!

Calgary Caricatures

When being a full time caricature artist, the locations differ for every event. For example, the family above was drawn at an event at Frank Slide, AB, and the other would be at The BMO Center for The Calgary Stampede. Keeps things interesting!

Yoga Caricatures

TBT.....Though I don't do studio caricatures anymore, I did these about 6 years ago for a yoga studio, there were about 30 of them in total. The lady that hired me didn't want a digital style, instead she wanted a traditional style, which I was happy with. These were drawn in ink, and Copic markers.....

2016 was a great year in review, even though the economy was slowing down in Calgary, there were still many companies that still wanted my caricatures at their parties...thank you! I just got back in the new year from drawing caricatures at the Kananaskis Resort, which I've done for the last 5 years. Here's a few of my favorite party  caricatures from 2016....looking forward to 2017! :)

I could add a hundred more caricature samples, but....you get the picture....they're turned into a cartoon! Trying to pick out the guests' best features is my aim when drawing these....after all....we are at a party! You supply the guests....I'll supply the party! :)

I returned from a trip to Nashville from having drum lessons from Jim Riley, drummer for platinum selling band, Rascal Flatts.
 I'm using a drum kit from one of the Rascal Flatts tours....beautiful Ludwig kit. I'm looking pretty tired here as they were 7 hours a day lessons, then watching bands in the evening at the many clubs that have live music. Quite an experience! :) Jim Riley is simply one of the best drummers on the planet.

Calgary Party Caricatures

Drawing these caricatures in Calgary was a relaxing one as it was a kids event held in the afternoon. There weren't many couples so I could take my time a bit more and spend a bit more time on the drawings, which I'm not used to as there are usually long line-ups....which is a good thing!
I'm now going up to Kanaskis Resort to draw caricatures until New Years Day....then finally a bit of a rest! :)

Christmas season I usually don't travel out of Calgary to draw caricatures, but because the weather wasn't too bad, though cold, the roads were fine! This event was for a financial group....great young couple above!

It helps when my little Grandson, Brendan, has a Grandfather that is a cartoonist! His Mom was sick and the next day his school asked everyone to have a Christmas shirt on....no time when Mom is sick. So I took one of his tee shirts and quickly drew The Grinch onto it.....it was a hit the following day.....:)

My Wife was busy decorating one of our three Christmas trees this year, though she hasn't had the time to add the fourth one we have in the family room, our entire house  is "Christmasfied!" Great job Maizie! And Merry Christmas to all!

Who says IT party goers aren't fun at a party....these folks sure were! The Christmas event was held at a local golf course, a MUCH better venue than anything in the downtown core.

Happy Birthday Keith Richards

Happy 73rd birthday to the Keith Richards, guitarist for The Rolling Stones. Yes...this is an older cartoon I drew of Keith Richards.....when he was 10 years old....kidding, perhaps when he was in his 40's. The loveable "un politically correct" guitar player has fooled everyone, with his wild life style, he's still around while others have passed on. and finally, to any critics of The Rolling Stones....I've seen them live, put them up against any new band (remember, they are all in their 70's) and I would bet a large sum of money, they will have a crowd rocking at any age. :)

Nashville

I don't mention this much on my blog, but besides being a full time caricature artist in Calgary, I balance being a drummer as well. I just purchased my plane tickets today for Nashville as I'm taking some advanced drum lessons from super drummer Jim Riley who plays drums with the group Rascal Flatts....yes....that Rascal Flatts!

I'll be drawing caricatures at The Kananaskis Resort until New Years Day, then a couple days home, then flying to Nashville.

It will be a bit like drinking water from a fire hose as a lot of instruction will be put my way in a three day time span....but I'm very much looking forward to this!

Because of my caricature schedule, I've been drumming on quite a few studio cd's for various bands over the last few years. Above are a few projects I've had to opportunity to play drums on. All of the projects I'm quite proud of.

House Party Caricatures

Another Christmas event held at a house of the business owner. This is a great alternative for small business owners this year with the economy the way it is in Alberta. All weekend I've had corporate events held in downtown Calgary.....I never realized until then how drawing caricatures at a house party is a relaxing alternative over the event held in the crowded downtown core with Calgary's famous over-priced parking and traffic mess.....just sayin.......:)

House Party Caricatures

Since I got back from Phoenix a few weeks ago, it's been a bit of a blur as I just haven't had time to post many events I've done since, which is about 8 of them. Between that and getting paper ready for the Christmas events, as they say in the song...Time is Tight..... :)

I really don't get a chance to caricature at too many house parties, but after drawing caricatures at the house party above, I think I may do more of these in the coming year!
