As an event caricaturist,I've been so fortunate and blessed to travel the world aboard cruise ships to draw cartoon caricatures for people from around the world. I'm somewhere sailing in the Caribbean in this picture, I think it's around St. Thomas. The Mediterranean is terrific as well, as I've worked from Italy up to Croatia. A very cool caricature assignment I had was to draw almost right across from Greenland in Kugukluk for the Inuit, that was surreal being up in that remote part of the world...and yes...it was cold!

Jazz Cat Logo

Above is a logo design I did for a jazz band, thus the 40's style "spats" (shoes) and the retro-style microphone, and the pin striped pants...I had fun with this one! Shooby-do-wah-wah!

Cartoon Logo

Every now and then I get asked to draw a cartoon logo for a sports team to put onto their uniforms...this was for a baseball "beer league." Thus the beer in his hand. They wanted their uniform socks worn over the rabbit's ears. I love doing these ones!

Studio Caricature

I did a studio caricature for a young gal that wanted her farmer Dad drawn.....he was pretty easy to draw. This looks better when seen completed and not photographed, it's Copic Markers and a Pitt Brush Pen.

One of my biggest thrills of my caricature career was the opportunity to draw caricatures in Disneyland, California. Good friend and a fine caricature artist, Tom Kelly, gave me the invite one summer until he trained a few more artists, as Tom ran the caricature booths in the location Downtown Disney. I jumped at the chance, flew down, and never looked back. It was a bit rough with the coloring I have to admit, as in The States, there are Hawaiians, different black skin tones and the Mexican population which were quite new to me, so it was a "learn on the job" situation. In the bottom picture, Tom invited me to a special event with the cast of Disney's "That's So Raven." I loved that as the event was held at Disney, Burbank Studios, where the offices of the Disney Corp. are. Thanks Tom for the experience!

Deco Design

Every now and then you're tested to try something a bit different than the type of art you're used to producing....this is that project, but I was happy how it turned out. I was asked by magazine owner, Sherry Shaw-Froggatt to produce this design for an event titled "Six In The City." The logo was used in magazines as well as newpapers and all advertising. The Six In The City event were six show homes that each had a chef inside the kitchens making light finger food, a jazz band playing in the front room of each showhome, and a limousine to bring guests to each home for a party...thus to raise money. The event was a resounding success.

Not all designs make it! I did this cartoon for a book cover for an inspirational author....the publisher wanted something a bit more serious, after seeing what was chosen, yes...I agree with the publisher...but it was a fun cartoon to draw.

Wow...it was humbling to see myself featured in a magazine entitled "Airdrie Life," showcasing my caricaturing. The photographer that took the picture above for the article was Kurtis Kritianson who is an adventure photographer, not long after taking my picture for the above article, Kurtis was in a light plane taking aerial photographs when the plane experienced engine problems and had to crash land....like a true photographer, Kurtis took pictures all the way down to earth. Both Kurtis and the pilot survived though they did have some injuries.

Every year I'm sponsored to draw caricatures in Airdrie at The Festival of Lights by a local dental office (THANK YOU!). But because I'm drawing families much of the time, I thought I would design a cartoon for them to print on their business cards to add some fun to the cards. Above is what I came up with.

Stampede Week

Here's a cartoon that I had origonally drawn and computer colored to use on a tee shirt or coffee mug...the project never came to fruition...but I like the cartoon.

Here's a sample of a Stampede Week caricature drawn by myself...they're always fun as they usually have bent up cowboy hats, and the men are unshaven ...and in most cases, they just want a fun caricature to remind them of Stampede Week..

I was hired by a corporation in Calgary to draw their advertising cartoons, as well as draw at a huge event they hold every Stampede Week. I had Emily Anthony help me draw caricatures for the event, (here I am above). During the event, they had four band playing...one that I had thought was THE best Creedence Clearwater tribute band that I have ever heard. They had supplied ear plugs for the caricaturists and we could view the band on the many monitors situated around the venue. I had told the woman in charge of the event that I thought the Creedence Clearwater tribute band was the best I've ever heard....she corrected me...no...they flew in Creedence Clearwater for the event. Well worth the price..I'm sure.

Each Stampede Week, I work with these ladies at a corporate event held at Heritage Park in Calgary for a road building company...they always provide fun entertainment for the guests....I draw the caricatures, they draw the attention! With me on the bottom picture is Matts Zoomer, another caricaturist I work with at that event every year.

Emily was a complete joy to work with throughout Stampede Week! Hopefully Emily Anthony will be able to join me again at the 2012 Calgary Stampede.....she's more than welcome!

Two caricaturists...being silly!

My fellow caricaturist and friend Emily Anthony and myself being silly in a photo-booth. Emily came in from Philidelphia to help me out at Stampede Week....Emily did a great job! And....a pleasure to work with....thank you so much Emily for helping this Stampede Week (2012)...hopefully Emily can come out again! Now...about the silly pictures above....well...we just wanted to try out a photo booth while we were working at a corporate event in downtown Calgary.

Here's a picture that might look more like a "Wanted Poster" of the other caricaturists in Calgary that I work corporate events with. This event was during  Stampede Week held at The Stampede Grounds in Calgary for a corporate party for General Motors. Left to right is Ismail Wamala, Kelly Gannon, Garry Peck and with the shades and hat...the other Kelly...Kelly Shoults. All are great guys to work with!
