Movember thanks!

I'm always thrilled when an organization takes time out after I've drawn caricatures at their event to say thank you! Always means so much to me...so...thank you Movember group for saying thank you....
Take the time to check out their website at   http://ca.movember.com/
In case some one is from another planet, Movember raises awareness for men's mental health, prostate cancer as well as testicular cancer....not a subject anyone, let alone men want to talk about, but this creative group has found a way with the growing of mustaches for the month of November. I couldn't take any pictures as I was situated by the band, Peter and The Wolves (good band!) and the lighting glare wasn't conducive for photographs that would turn out, but let me tell you...whoa baby...there were some mighty fine stashes I got to draw! So again...support these guys when you can and hide the razor in the month of November...
Yikes! It's hard to see yourself as others see you hard at work! :) ( If you call this hard at work...) I was at a gym last week and was working legs so ..yes...I sat down to rest (anyone that does squats with heavy weights will know what I'm talking about here....)....so I picked up a newspaper to kill off a couple minutes, and low and behold....there was my mug...in all it's glory....not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing the newspaper spelled my name incorrectly....:)

Family Day Caricatures

One of my favorites from drawing at a Family Day event at Springs Church in Calgary......love the hat! :) It was a "Jazzberry Entertainment" booking that had me meeting a large group of families enjoying an Alberta holiday held on Monday.
This rather large lizard was a few feet away with a large group of other reptiles as part of a display for families to see how the cold blooded live.....there is something unnerving when these guys stare at you......

Party Caricatures in Calgary

This morning had me caricaturing the young ones! These little rascals keep you on your toes when they're sqiggly, but this little guy was a great model! Thanks Trevor! Monday has me drawing caricatures for most of the day in Calgary...looking forward to it!

I had one more cartoon studio assignment this week for the same dog company that did up my tee shirt and calendar designs....all dog products, and we own a cat! :) These ones above had a certain concept they wanted me to follow, and keeping the drawing in black and white with grey tones only, always something out of the ordinary to think about when drawing cartoons....but that's what makes cartoons interesting!

Trade Show Caricatures

Drawing caricatures at trade shows rates high on my gig level...I love them. I usually only have to draw one person per page so I can bring a smaller size paper to work on saving the guest from hauling around a large piece of paper. This was The Travel Expo held at The Telus Convention Centre here in Calgary. Above is my "welcoming committee"......

The guest above is a world traveller and a colorful rascal...how do I know? Turns out Zeke here was my automotive teacher in high school....and yes....he was a good one.......

Birthday Party Caricatures

When drawing caricatures in Calgary in February the corporate sector is usually finished up at the end of December and usually birthday and retirement parties are in full demand at this time of year....these I love! This was my first one for Jazzberry Entertainment....I love the balloon sculptor in the background of the first picture.

Paul Revere tribute on The Grammys

Before Paul Revere, leader of the iconic sixties group Paul Revere and the Raiders, passed away, I was so fortunate to have met him a few times and drawn his caricature and the great irony is that he drew me his cartoon, which I have on my studio wall. I'm mentioning this as tonight Paul Revere is honoured on the 2015 Grammys. His drummer Tommy Scheckle was asked to send in video footage and pictures. In the collectors addition of People Magazine, Paul Revere was also featured....and yes, what a wonderful personality!

You Got It - Roy Orbison - Cover - Trio Avenue

Here's a song my band Trio Avenue recorded a couple of months ago, a cover song of Roy Orbison's "You Got It." Not only are his songs a challenge vocally ( but our singer Don Kletke nailed it ), but there were timpani drums throughout the song, I used Roland eDrums and tried our best to get a timpani sound in the module.....seems to have worked though. A well written, great tune by the "Big O

Radio Host

Finally Calgary has a great evening talk radio show!  When I'm not drawing caricatures at corporate events, playing in my band or rehearsing, with my Wife's blessings, I go lift weights a little later at night at a local gym here...since I'm

Caricatures by picture

I received a call from a school in the interior of British Columbia where there are not a lot of caricature artists to choose from, so the school sent me pictures to work off of....these I treated exactly like a live event....just look at the screen and quickly draw a head and shoulders cartoon style caricature. These are half of them, about 20 more to go!
A studio digital caricature I did, though I have to stress that I don't do studio caricatures anymore, though IF I had to, would only want to do one that has a design element to it instead of a series of "things" in the picture.

Calgary Cartoonist

My cartoon business is going to the dogs...literally! A client asked that I cartoon a Dachshund to be used for a construction company mascot. The cartoon pooch had to be standing with tools, no movement, look very friendly and keep the cartoon very simple in design and color. I love seeing my simple cartoons in print whether it be on a website or flyers etc, which this cartoon is showing up in. These are my all time favorite projects to work on! ( No animals were hurt during this drawing...... :)

Calgary Cartoonist

Well it is amazing how my little cartoon pitbull design has been turned into calendars and tee shirts sold all around the world....I guess never underestimate the power of a little cartoon!

Party Caricatures

A couple of the cartoon caricatures I drew over Christmas Day to New Years Eve and Day at The Delta Kananaskis Resort in the mountains. You could REALLY get spoiled working up there, nice rooms, scenery and the food! Yes...the belly now has to get worked to get those delux buffets they have out there. These were delightful kids to draw...thank you!

Calgary Cartoonist

Above is a cartoon I first drew for a children's website last year....but...unfortunately it was a "no go"........ I drew another for a construction company's website and am waiting for it to be put up before I post it. "Studio cartoons" I love to draw...."STUDIO" caricatures.....hmmmmnnn....NOT so..........
A new logo designed for a small entertainment company I've invested in. Yes...it's mega simple in design, but at first the designers had other swirls and graphics built into it and I just felt it looked cleaner on it's own and asked that they take everything else out but the lettering. I think the color is the hook! More on this later.

Stay With Me - Sam Smith - Cover - Trio Avenue

Just had to post another of my band, Trio Avenue's, latest recording! Kudo's goes to our lead singer Don, as he ALWAYS hits the correct notes no matter how high, as you will hear in this song. Reed Crapo playing keyboards, digital bass and orchestra. Yours truly, Kelly here playing a set of Roland digital drums. Enjoy!

Christmas Over...Hooray!

Well...Christmas is well over and for me...I'm happy, hate to sound like Scrooge, but I'm a "Halloween" person myself! Here's the last of many decorations inside The Gannon's house my Wife, Maizie so lovingly decorates...yes....you do a great job Maizie!

Happy New Year!

Don't end up like this guy New Year's Eve..... I'll be drawing caricatures until New Year's Day up in Kananaskis Country at the Delta Resort....so until then...Happy New Year!
A few of the hard working staff at the Delta Resort I'm drawing caricatures at this Christmas to New Year's Day. These people at the hotel really work hard to make the guests have a memoriable Christmas. Thanks to all.

Here's the room I'm drawing caricatures at this Christmas....you can't beat the ambience in here....or the food!

Christmas at The Gannon's

My Wife Maizie always does a fantastic job decoration our home at Christmas! Every corner of the house has a Christmas theme set up, including all tables, entrance way and even the basement! I need a warehouse though to store all the decorations during the rest of the year.......

Happy - Pharrell Williams - Cover - Trio Avenue

Here's another recording from my band "Trio Avenue," recorded a few months ago....yours truly banging away at the drums. I had to "alter" the drum pattern from the origional as Pharrell is using a drum machine. A fun song for a drummer either way!
For the last four years, I've been able to draw caricatures at this resort in Kananaskis country. I begin drawing tomorrow ( Dec 23) and come back New Years Day. I have two events to draw caricatures on Christmas Day alone, so it keeps me busy. Luckily my family is able to come out anytime they want, as it's about an hour and a half from my home. They generally just come out for a day or so but I'm always glad to see them, as all I see there are.....families! Until then....Merry Christmas!

Calgary Party Caricatures

I've been so fortunate here in Calgary, to draw about six caricature events a week. And I have about seven or so more events until New Years Day...Thank You Calgary!
