To all the Allied soldiers, I Thank You!
Our Canadian soldiers were forgotten by Hollywood and the school boards across this country, but the history books show what these men did. And thank you to the men and women that went behind enemy lines that remain anonymous in what they had to accomplish on covert missions to prepare for allied landing. And to a famous Canadian that, again, did not get what was due to his efforts in WW11.... William Stephenson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Stephenson

Calgary Caricatures
A couple from many events I've had no time to post lately...above...a Father and Son team! One "stickler" I have with a few artists (unless they're at a theme park where samples are displayed).....I think "this is personal opinion now," that there is absolutely no need to over-exaggerate a young adult's misgivings (such as the young fella at the top of the page), I feel you can still get the look without the sting, unless the artist simply doesn't care and is trying to glorify himself.....just my humble opinion....besides..the Father above is about six foot four inches, approx 225 lbs.........

My favorite venue to draw caricatures in, which I did on Monday morning....this is only a small glimps of what is in the building....at least it's not your average, dull, boring rooms that are so often the case. The guests were senior executives of a banking institution......Not too sure why it's so difficult now to post on Blogger.....seems that when something is easy and user friendly, it just takes a geek to change that and make it quite a bit more difficult to use. Blooger NEVER gets back to you when you use the "Send Feedback" box......

Another wedding event to draw caricatures at in Calgary was held at The Stampede Grounds....thing about this particular venue was that in the sixties, this was THE building all the popular bands of that era played. Walking into it now, I see how small the venue is compared to the large arena's today's bands play in.

Wedding Caricatures In Calgary
Weddings are becoming VERY popular here in Canada for caricature artists. Last night had me drawing caricatures for a wedding held at Lougheed House...or as it was first known, Beaulieu. This house when first built has entartained quite a number of members of the Royal Family. It was then used during WW11 as a barracks for the women's army corps, but now it looks a little out of place plunked right in the middle of modern high rises.

I worked late at the previous event in The Rocky Mountains, then drove back home, had a few hours sleep, then headed to downtown Calgary for an early start drawing caricatures for a solid six and a half hours for a fashion show.....which was perfectly fine with me! I was set up just a couple feet from the end of the catwalk.
A couple of the delightful guests drawn today.....thanks!

Tonight was my last evening drawing caricatures at The Delta Resort just beyond that mountain! It always amazes me when entrepreneurs can build a resort deep in the middle of a mountain range.
Just in case you're wondering why the colorful garb?........Mardi Gras theme. Won't mention the company, but an influential one all across Canada...LOTS of clout! :)

Nickelback.....Hanna
I had spent the day caricaturing some wonderful teenagers in the small town of...Hanna, Alberta. What is so significant about Hanna is that the rock group "Nickelback" grew up here, the band are cousins and brothers. While driving back home from the caricature event, after seeing the small, old-fashioned downtown (pictured above), and all the radio stations playing country music, he blue and white building is the bar they used to play in)....I just had to admire the odds that Nickelback overcame to become one of the world's premier rock bands.....it had me thinking of destiny. Other bands coming out of New York, Vancouver, L.A., and Toronto, with all that is available to them havn't reached the heights Nickelback have.....could it be a "meant to be"? Congradulations Nickelback!!
The event for the teenagers of Hanna I worked at was where Nickelback started out playing while just young and upcoming...some of the event organizers remember the band playing for the teens.....great group of young people at the event!

Today another store chain is selling some of my lapel pins...thanks Guitarworks! I have two more chains selling them from Calgary to Vancouver. These ones are guitar players...plenty more designs to come in the future. To start these pins it's a huge investment and a lot of haggling with the companies making them, but so far they've done a beautiful job making them.

Just a few of the caricatures I drew for an oil company this week downtown. I didn't take any pictures of the subjects as I figured since I had to go through security down in the lobby, then have special passes to get through the doors of the offices upstairs...well, better to just show the caricatures. Fun groups! This was booked by Kel Studios Entertainment,,,thanks Cara.

My Wife's rock garden is thriving! I just had to post this as I remember this was just a clump of dirt when she/we started on this. I found the rock in the back yard and glued the address onto it...then my wife did her magic by planting shrubs, trees and flowers.....great job Maizie!

Not too clear a picture, but after my Spruce Meadows gig, I managed to see a legendary singer perform ....Eric Burdon and the Animals. Part of The British Invasion, he's still performing at the age of 72...and still sounds great! You won't know many of his hits if you're young...hits such as, "The House of the Rising Sun," Sky Pilot, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, We Got To Get Out Of This Place, It's My Life, Monterey.............you get the picture.....many hits.......too bad the newspapers ignored his concert and instead reported an upstart country and western band that has about 2 hits to their credit.......... Great concert Mr. Burdon!

A friend of mine was looking through, in my opinion, an amatuer, non-important newspaper...The Airdrie City View, when she seen my picture in there....only trouble was, the "reporter" didn't bother asking my name and put in another name....smart reporter! I nicely emailed the newspaper to tell them my name (simple request...)...no answer....no retraction. It goes to show what I've always thought about newspapers...great for swatting flies and great for lining the bird cage.............
